Situated
in the beautiful Methow Valley, Bear Creek Golf Course lies north
of Twisp and southeast of Winthrop on the old Ortell cattle ranch.
In 1948 Herman Court, an ex-Seattle fireman, purchased the 480-acre
Ortell spread at the base of Studhorse Mountain. Court started thinking
about a golf course in 1952. Actual construction began in 1965.
He built 3 holes which folks played 3 times around. They purchased
a punch card for $25 which was good for 25 rounds. Court started
with a rough three-hole layout. By 1969 Bear Creek had developed
into a regulation-length nine. Herm turned the facility over to
his son, Ashley, in 1982. Ash and his wife, Linda, now oversee the
operation. |

Compliments on the lush fairways, and well-maintained greens flow freely after a round. Those who choose to play 18 holes are quite impressed with the variety offered by the unique placement of back 9 tees. Clubs, pull carts, and golf cars are available to rent at the clubhouse. A snack bar offers a variety of food and drink. The Pro shop/gift shop provides many selections for that special someone. |
